Smartphone Spotlight: iPhone 11 in 2022 _CompAsia Philippines

It has been almost 3 years since the launch of the iPhone 11 towards the end of 2019. Even so, the iPhone 11 was one of the top selling phones globally in 2021. According to Counterpoint, a technology market research company, the iPhone 11 ranked 5th in the top 10 phones sold globally. 7 out of the 10 phones were from Apple which is clear evidence of Apple’s dominance in the smartphone arena.

This is unsurprising as few brands can compare to the seamlessness and reliability of the iOS and Apple’s ecosystem. Based on the same data, the iPhone 11 is the oldest iPhone model on the top 10 list. In this article, we will look at what makes the iPhone 11 so appealing even in 2022.

Build and design

The iPhone 11 truly is one-of-a-kind. It is the only curved edge iPhone with the signature iPhone camera set-up in the back. While many will not be able to tell the difference between the 12 and the 13, the 11 definitely stands out. Compared to the base level 12 and 13, the iPhone 11 is slightly bigger in all dimensions. It is also slightly heavier, but can still be managed single handedly (depending on the size of your hands). Some may also appreciate the heft of the iPhone as it definitely feels sturdy in the hands and exudes the opulence of an Apple flagship phone.

Display

While some may consider the 60Hz refresh rate of the iPhone 11 a bummer, one must also take into consideration that the iPhone 12 is no different. Yet there is quite a difference in the price tags of these two phones. That’s not to say that the iPhone 11 is sluggish. The more standard refresh rate is only noticeable upon direct comparison. When it comes to regular use, there is little to complain about. The iPhone 11 has Apple’s signature True Tone embedded resulting in rich visual output. The display may not be as bright as the 13 but it is not too far off from the 12.

Performance and battery

Sporting the Apple A13 bionic chip, the iPhone 11 is as capable as ever. There are no issues whatsoever when it comes to streaming videos and the loading of apps. Even games that require optimal processing speeds run without a hitch. Fans of games like Mobile Legends or Genshin Impact will find that the iPhone 11 is a highly competent device with perhaps some minor flaws such as heating and battery draining.

Even so, iPhone 11 owners will appreciate the fact that the device sports a 3110 mAh battery capacity, bigger than the iPhone 12’s 2815 mAh battery capacity.

Camera

You may have heard that photography enthusiasts should always opt for the Pro version, be it the iPhone 11, 12 or 13. There is some truth to this to a certain extent. That’s not to say that the camera of the iPhone 11 is not good. It is in fact comparable to the iPhone 13 base model. Where the iPhone 11 loses out is in the sharpness of small details. Colours however are true-to-life and balanced. It’s also important to point out that iPhone’s captures are snappy, as most iPhones are.

Final notes

The appeal of being in the Apple ecosystem cannot be denied and at this point, the iPhone 11 has longevity on its side. As of now it is upgradable to iOS 15.5 and will be able to support iOS 16 when it is out.

With a price tag of around ₱24,450 (at compasia.com.ph), many are opting to step into the Apple ecosystem over a brand-new mid-range Android device. How the iPhone manages to retain its trade-in value is also a testament to how much Malaysians appreciate the user-friendliness and design appeal of Apple devices.
